How do I get an NROTC scholarship application form?

What are the eligibility requirements for an NROTC Scholarship?

You must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • Not less than 17 years old by September 1 of year starting college and no more than 23 on June 30 of that year.
  • Must not have reached 27th birthday by June 30 of year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated.
  • Applicants with prior military service may be eligible for age adjustments for amount of time equal to their prior service, on month-by-month basis, for maximum of 36 months, if they will not reach 30th birthday by June 30 of year graduation and commissioning are anticipated.
  • High school graduation or equivalency certificate by August 1 of year of entrance into four-year NROTC Scholarship program.
  • No moral obligations or personal convictions that prevent conscientious bearing of arms and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic.
  • Physically qualified by Navy or Marine Corps standards.
  • Students with 30 or more semester hours or 45 or more quarter hours of college credit upon application or students already enrolled in NROTC College Program are not eligible for four-year NROTC Scholarships. These students should see professors of naval science at host university’s NROTC unit to discuss other scholarship opportunities.
  • Students may apply for only one of three program options: Navy, Marine Corps or Nurse.
  • Active duty Navy applicants are ineligible to apply for NROTC program through COMNAVCRUITCOM. Active members of other branches of the military may apply if granted a conditional release. Individuals who are scheduled for boot camp may apply provided they complete all required application evolutions (i.e. strong interest inventory, officer interview, etc.). NSTC will accept teacher evaluations, transcripts, and ACT/SAT scores dated after the applicants ship date.
  • Navy and Nurse-option applicants should apply online or through Navy recruiting offices.
  • Marine Corps applicants should apply online or through Marine Corps recruiting offices.
  • You may start the process of applying during the second semester of your junior year of high school. Before the application can be finalized and forward for selection consideration, you must ensure that a copy of your complete transcript including your entire junior year is forwarded to your recruiter.

What are the minimum academic requirements to be considered for an NROTC Scholarship?

Qualifying scores on Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT):

Navy (including Nurse-option):
SAT: 530 Critical Reading; 520 math
ACT: 22 English 21 Math

Marine Corps option:
SAT: 1000 composite
ACT: 22 composite

*Minimum scores must be obtained on the same test. Combining scores from different tests is prohibited.
** If you graduated in the top 10 percent of your high school class, SAT/ACT scores can be lower.

What does the NROTC scholarship pay for?

The scholarship pays for the following:

  • Tuition and school/class related fees.
  • Book stipend. This amounts to $375 a semester. For several majors, this will pay for most books. For others, like engineering, it may not cover all your books.
  • Uniforms. Both Corps of Cadet and Midshipman uniforms.
  • Monthly allowance: All scholarship freshmen will receive $250 a month. This allowance is increased by $50 each year.
  • Summer training pay (approx. $750/month)

What does the NROTC scholarship NOT pay for?

The scholarship does not pay for initial dorm deposit, dorm fees, meal plan, sports/entertainment passes, parking.

When is the scholarship application deadline?

Applications may be submitted from 1 April until 31 January of the following year. Completed applications will be processed as they are received. Notifications of early selection will begin in September.

When will I find out if I received an NROTC scholarship?

All scholarship nominees will be notified by 30 April of the current year.

Where do I buy uniform items?

Generally, you order uniform items from the Uniform Support Center at 1.800.368.4088. We will give you all the information you need regarding uniforms once you receive a NROTC scholarship to Norwich University.

If I don’t receive a four-year scholarship, can I still commission in the Navy or Marine Corps?

Absolutely! Our staff is dedicated to helping you in every way reach your goal of becoming an officer in the Navy or Marine Corps. We have two- or three-year scholarships available and encourage you to set your sights on them early. If you were not selected for a four-year scholarship out of high school, but strongly desire to attend Norwich University, be a member of the Corps of Cadets and eventually an officer, there are many opportunities for you!
